In Memoriam: Barbara Tharp

Barbara (Barb) Anne Windsor Tharp, 79, formerly of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away on July 19, 2023 from complications associated with dementia.

Barb was born on June 3, 1944 to Prentiss and Ruth Windsor in Muleshoe, Texas.  After graduating high school in San Angelo, Texas, she went on to study Library Sciences at North Texas State University (known today as University of North Texas).

Barb was married to Edward W. Tharp from 1967 to 1984, and in that time would have two sons, Randy, and Robert.

Barb spent the formative years of her sons’ lives volunteering in their extra-curricular activities, and at the elementary school they attended.  Afterward, she worked as an accountant / bookkeeper for several different companies for the better part of 30 years in Casper, Wyoming, and then in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In 2013, Barb retired from accounting and pursued an encore career as an energy healer for people and their pets.  She derived great joy from being able to identify and clear the trapped emotions which manifested as physical and psychological pain within her clients.  During this time, Barb also volunteered for No Hound Unhomed, Penrose-St. Francis Health Systems, and the Center for Spiritual Living.

Barb loved to go hiking in the Pikes Peak area, or as she referred to it, “yonder hill”.  She also kept up with the Iditarod, and visited Alaska a few times to watch the race in person.  In addition to the love she had for all of the dogs she had over the years, Barb loved collecting decorative owls which adorned her home in the form of wall hangings, coffee cups, statues, and attire.

Barb is predeceased by her parents along with triplet sisters who passed at the time they were born.  She would include her beloved dogs in that list of loved ones who passed before her.  Those were Dodger, Chowsky, Ginger, Chinook, Daisy, and Brandi.

She is survived by her two sons, Randy and Robert, Randy’s wife Beckie, her two grandchildren Nicholas and Leighanne, Nicholas’s wife Valerie, and her great grandson Isaiah.

A private ceremony celebrating her life will be scheduled at a later time.
